I want you to dream big, encourage you to do things you’ve always wanted to do on your elopement day. Make it epic day. Make it truly the experience of a life-time. Your elopement day can be a meaningful adventure where you immerse yourselves in the natural beauty of the Swiss Alps.
Switzerland is incredibly easy to navigate, whether you'’re using the efficient Swiss Travel Pass or renting a car to explore Switzerland with more freedom. The train rides alone are an experience, winding through picturesque landscapes of the Swiss Alps and the surrounding mountain range that will take your breath away. I always recommend building in some extra time to explore quaint villages or take a detour to that perfect mountain viewpoint. When you visit Switzerland, consider the best times to travel to fully enjoy its beautiful landscapes and rich cultural heritage.
Accommodation options vary from cozy, affordable rooms starting around 80 CHF (85 € / 90 $) to luxurious suites in 4-star hotels that can climb above 500 CHF (530 € / 570 $) per night. If you’re eloping near the Matterhorn or other iconic spots, consider staying nearby to make the most of your time. Some photographers (myself included) are happy to help with more than just photos—whether it’s booking your stay or helping coordinate your travel, we’re here to make things easier, so all you have to do is enjoy the ride.
Finding the right vendors is a game-changer. You want people who not only understand Switzerland’s rugged beauty but also appreciate the unique energy of an elopement. A great elopement photographer doesn’t just snap pictures—they help you find those hidden gems, the spots where the light hits just right, and where you can feel like the only two people in the world.
I believe though that elopement should be highly personal and not a package you can book like everyone else. Some elopement photographers can suggest other vendors, like I can, too, but make sure they get you—your style, your vision. If you're looking for celebrants to flowers and makeup, just let me know.
If you plan to hike or head somewhere a bit off the beaten path, ensure your vendors are up for the adventure. I’ve been known to lace up my hiking boots alongside my couples, and those moments of trekking together often become some of the most memorable parts of the day.
Let’s get the practical stuff out of the way. If you’re not a Swiss citizen, you can still legally marry in Switzerland, but it involves a bit of documentation. You’ll need your passport and a recently issued birth certificate, and you’ll want to check in with your nearest Swiss consulate to ensure everything’s in order. For many couples, a symbolic ceremony is the way to go—it skips the bureaucracy and lets you focus on the experience, leaving the legalities for home. And if you’re part of the LGBTQ+ community, Switzerland’s marriage laws are evolving, so it’s important to get clear advice on the current options.
Finding the right vendors, including skilled wedding planners, is crucial for organizing and executing your wedding event with attention to detail, logistical expertise, and creativity.
If you want to get officially married in Switzerland, just contact me and lets see if it’s possible for you two.
When you think of eloping in Switzerland, it's not just about the jaw-dropping landscapes—it’s also about embracing the local culture, and what better way than through its incredible cuisine? Adding traditional Swiss dishes to your elopement day can give it that extra touch of authenticity, warmth, and joy. Whether you’re cozying up with a bubbling pot of fondue, sharing raclette with your closest loved ones, or indulging in some crispy rösti, Swiss food can turn your celebration into a true cultural experience.
There’s something magical about gathering around a pot of melted cheese with the person you love most. Fondue is more than just a meal; it’s a shared experience that fosters connection, much like your elopement. As you dip bread into a mix of Gruyère and Emmental cheese, perhaps spiked with garlic, white wine, or a splash of kirsch, it’s hard not to smile. The caquelon, or traditional fondue pot, sits at the center of your table, bringing everyone together in a moment of shared warmth and celebration. And let's be honest—what’s better than cheese when you’re celebrating your love?
Raclette is all about indulgence and togetherness, making it a perfect fit for an intimate elopement. Picture this: a wheel of raclette cheese slowly melting, scraped over hot boiled potatoes, tangy pickles, crisp onions, and savory cured meats. It's the kind of meal that encourages lingering at the table, enjoying each other’s company as you savor every bite. The name “raclette” comes from the French word racler, meaning "to scrape"—and trust me, you’ll want to scrape up every bit of this gooey, delicious cheese. Sharing raclette with your closest friends or family adds a cozy, communal vibe to your day that’s hard to beat.
A classic Swiss staple, rösti is a must-try if you’re looking to incorporate traditional flavors into your elopement. These crispy, golden pan-fried potatoes are like a Swiss version of hash browns, but so much better. Rösti is versatile enough to be served as a main dish, topped with eggs, bacon, or cheese, or as a side to complement a larger meal. Its simplicity and comfort make it the perfect addition to your elopement celebration, giving you a taste of authentic Swiss cuisine while keeping the focus on the love and connection you’re there to celebrate.
I get it, it might sound like I don’t care about your wedding photos—but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Hear me out. Wedding photos are not like headshots for work. You don’t just want pretty pictures; you want to remember how it felt. That’s why I believe the most important thing is to choose a photographer who values your experience just as much as the photos.
As a photographer, I care more about the memories you make than capturing a flawless, staged shot. Instead of aiming for those picture-perfect Instagram images, I want you to ask yourself one thing: How do you want to feel when you look at your wedding photos?
I’m not about forcing stiff poses or fake emotions. If we climb a mountain or find a serene lake, it’s not just for the photo—it’s for the experience. The backdrop becomes part of your story, not just a pretty scene. I promise we won’t do anything just for a picture; we’ll do it because it adds to the incredible day you’re living.
When you look back, I want you to remember the love, the connection, and the adventure you shared. If you truly feel those emotions in the moment, they’ll come flooding back every time you look at your photos—and that’s what matters most.

Hey! I'm Jaakko!
I'm an elopement photographer based in Finland, just a short journey from the stunning landscapes of Switzerland. From where I am, it's easy to hop over to the Swiss Alps, and trust me, they are every bit as magical as you imagine.
My wife Ida and I got married back in 2015, and now we have two wonderful kids. We’ve spent countless summers exploring the outdoors, which has only deepened my love for adventure and nature—something I always bring into my photography.
Growing up, my parents made sure I had an active life, and I even competed in orienteering, which gave me an innate sense of navigating wild landscapes. Whether it’s a scenic road trip through the Alps, trail running on mountain paths, or capturing intimate moments with couples, I always feel at home in nature.
When I work with couples, I bring that same sense of openness and curiosity. I love getting to know the real you—your shared stories, your passions, and the little details of your daily life. It’s a huge honor to be invited to capture one of the most meaningful days of your life, and I’m here to make sure your elopement in Switzerland is as unforgettable as the landscapes we’ll explore together.
